What We're Doing for the Environment:

Saving over 9,000 acres of invaluable land, rivers and marshes including. This is the site of the first African settlement of slaves brought by the Spanish in 1526 (tradition had the original settlement in Jamestown in 1619), and also Stevens Marsh, one of the six original Georgia sites designated as a must save by the state of Georgia. We save vanishing crops including the Seminole pea and rare camellias in our historic gardens. We preserve our Springfield Plantation (where guests stay), the oldest coastal GA plantation owned intact and continuously by the same family since it was granted by King George of England in 1755.  We are also maintain a research and recreational facility partnering with two universities.
